A lighthearted parody of Eric Carle's seminal children's book, The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady tackles the mystery faced by pregnant women everywhere-how can I have so little space for my stomach and yet be hungry all the time? Taking place in the wee hours of the morning, the story follows a pregnant woman as she samples and snacks her way through the pantry. When she ultimately goes into labor, the birth of her baby and the discovery of her new identity as a mother mirror the transformation of Eric Carle's hungry caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady is both a send-up and a celebration of this strange, ridiculous, and exciting time in the lives of all mothers-to-be.
